Czech competition authority organised annual St. Martin´s Conference on recent trends in competition law

The Office for the Protection of Competition organised on 14 and 15 November 2018 the twelfth St. Martin´s Conference, focusing on recent trends in the field of competition and significant market power.

Approximately 150 domestic and foreign competition experts, both academics and practising lawyers, took part in the conference. Besides summarizing of the recent activities of the Czech and also Slovak competition authority, other topics were discussed as well, such as private enforcement before the Czech courts, competition in healthcare sector or bid rigging, when different views of the representatives of the Office, the representatives of public prosecutor’s office and attorneys were presented. The second conference day addressed the issue of significant market power, which was raised not only within the relevant panel, but also in one of the special workshops. Two other workshops dealt with the issue of excessive prices and the settlement procedure. A keynote presentation was given by Frédéric Jenny, chairman of the OECD Competition Committee.
