The Office takes part in international project Computational Antitrust
Competition law recently deals with rapidly developing and complex digital markets, in a certain manner different from the traditional ones. The purpose of this project is to create and implement computational methods enabling the antitrust agencies to maintain and/or improve their competency in the fields of detection, analysis and remedy of anticompetitive practices in the digital sector. The new developed techniques and tools can also simplify a merger control. On the other hand, the techniques can be used also by undertakings to assess and ensure their compliance with competition law. The project should bridge a certain gap between abundant discussions about competition issues within the digital platforms and markets and the lack of suitable technological tools solving such issues.
The Computational Antitrust project aims on the initiation of necessary discussions by means of publication of expert articles on the subject of competition policy and computational methods interface and mutual exchange of experience and outcomes of such methods application. Relevant findings will be presented at annual workshop and published in the annual report.
„I do believe, this project will provide new ideas, advanced methods and possibilities within competition law enforcement, not only in detection and evidence of individual anticompetitive behaviour, but also within the legal and economic analyses performance or investigation process simplification. This should find practical expression in more effective protection of competition by the Office on behalf of consumers in the Czech Republic”, assessed the Office´s participation in the project its chairman Petr Mlsna.
