President of the Czech Republic, Mr. Klaus, inaugurated a new Chairman of the Office
“The Office for the Protection of Competition has already established itself on our political and economic scene and it is advisable that the Office was not afraid of exerting its power and on the other hand so that it did not try to act as a Demiurge which knows exactly how the structure of our market should look like and wants to dictate or delineate our market relationships”, said the President of the Czech Republic and expressed his wishes of many successes in accomplishing this difficult task to the new Office´s Chairman. The acceding Chairman of the Office thanked the President for the expressed trust and emphasized that he would especially pay attention to the prevention of prohibited practices. “We will strive rather to encourage the market players to eliminate possible insufficiencies in the way that is given to us by the law, instead of punishing them. Fines are an important part of our work, however, we must be convinced that we face a malignant and intentional behaviour of undertakings”, said the new Chairman of the Czech Competition Office. The new Chairman stressed that he would aim all its effort at preserving the good name of the Office.
