The Office imposed record fine on Zlin town hall

2007-04-20
The Office for the Protection of Competition has fined the Town Hall of Zlin 3 million crowns for bad tenders for public orders, which is the highest sum imposed on a body over public procurement.

The fine resulted from a nearly year-lasting investigation of some 20 public procurements. Zlin can appeal the decision. Zlin Town Hall repeatedly violated law. Past fines have reached 700,000 crowns. Zlin is among the Czech towns fined most frequently. „Anti-corruption police deal with some of the Zlin orders,“ said Chairman of the Office Martin Pecina.

The Chairman also confirmed an earlier fine for Hradec Kralove Town Hall that was cancelled last autumn due to technical errors concerning the verdict. Hradec Kralove must pay 700,000 crowns for a bad tender for waste disposal worth 200 million CZK.
